Community Structure & Governance
Communal Meals
On Wednesdays, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be communal. Attendance will only be required for one of these meals as this is when we will hold village meetings.
For every other day, only dinner will be communal and attendance will not be required. The reason attendance will not be required for the majority of the communal meals is because, while it would be nice if everyone attended every meal, we don’t want any one to feel forced or obligated.
With the aid of digital technology, each artist that plans to attend a communal meal can select what they wish to have from an online menu and collect their meal upon arrival (sort of like placing an online pizza order for carry-out). Each order will be prepared and packaged individually (and only when placed), this eliminates the often unsanitary buffet-style layouts or the limited choices caused by mass produced dishes.
Weekly Meetings
Meetings will be held every Wednesday during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Attendance will only be required for one of the meals, though it will likely be helpful if some people attend all three (and possibly more productive if everyone attends all three).
A primary feature of weekly village meetings is that they will be more “conversations over a meal” than “official community meetings”. The idea is to establish a more relaxed atmosphere, with no set structure apart from the productive necessity of one speaker at a time. Regardless of how long it takes, whatever needs addressing, will be addressed.
Decision-making
Village decisions will be initiated through online voting, ensuring everyone has a voice in shaping village life. In some cases, if the outcome of the online vote is not unanimous, it moves to discussion in the next meeting, where adaptations will be made until everyone is satisfied with the outcome.
When a situation calls for a collective decision, the matter will be discussed until the decision is unanimous. Given enough time, patience, and imagination… a reasonable compromise can be reached in any situation… one that all involved can agree is fair.
In the event there is that one person that disagrees simply for the sake of being difficult, for example, then they will be required to elaborate on their reasoning. If they cannot, they will then be required to explain why they wish to create friction. Objections must be accompanied with potential solutions.
All will be encouraged to speak freely and honestly, regardless of how they feel about how they feel (i.e., “this might be a dumb question, but…”). This will make things far more efficient, and ensure that everyone is truly satisfied with the results of the discussion.
Blockchain-Based Governance
To ensure transparency and fairness, voting will be conducted via blockchain-based governance systems using smart contracts. This will ensure every vote is publicly verifiable while maintaining voter anonymity.
Supermajority for Low-Stakes Decisions
While most decisions will strive for consensus, for lower-stakes items, the community will vote on which decisions may utilize supermajority rules (e.g., 80%) and the exact percentage for each case. This reduces bottlenecks in decision-making while preserving collective input for high-impact decisions.
Crypto-Token Voting
Voting will be facilitated using a token-based system. Each villager will be allocated one token, which they will send to the address corresponding to their choice. In return, the village will provide a reasonable amount of Circuitree currency to each participant, rewarding civic engagement.
Rules
The following things will not be tolerated, and will be grounds for exile from the village:” violence; hunting; Vindictive Sabotage (tampering with any of -but not limited to- the following, especially with destructive or harmful intent: art; food; water; technology; structures; plant life; animal life); plagiarism; possession, production, or distribution of dangerous illegal drugs.
Repeated violation of the following rules can also result in exile:” bullying; sneaking in unapproved guests; physical property theft, repeated neglect of weekly required work hours.
Requirements
- Six hours of “tasks” per resident, per week. See “Tasks and Task-Inspections” for more details.
- Working as an inspector of completed tasks when it’s your turn. See “Tasks and Task-Inspections” for more details
- Attendance to at least one of the meal-meetings on Wednesdays. See “Meals and Meetings” for more details.
- Due to the level of interest, limitations of space, and trolls… Artists and Engineers that would like to become residents are required to audition after they’ve explored all of the current details of the village (don’t worry, you can do both from wherever you are). If you have specific questions that need answering before you apply, please ask them on the discord server. The audition form will be ready soon.
Guest Policy
For the safety of all living in the village, first-time guests must be approved in advance of their arrival (this is only necessary for the first visit). Last minute guests will be approved on a case by case basis.
If the guest will be a regular guest, they will be required to keep a guest badge so they are not mistaken for a rogue tourist and asked to leave. (The badge will feature useful information… such as a map, transportation times, show times, and various other things to do or see in the the village.)
Guests are not to be in private areas (areas that require keys to access) without a resident escort.
Guests must abide by the same rules as villagers.
Long-term guests, those that stay overnite on a regular basis, must be approved as such themselves (a similar process to becoming a resident) and contribute to the village as all residents do. (Note: this option will not be available until after the first residents are settled in.)
