Community Life & Activities
Meals
The Gathering Dome Kitchen
The Gathering Dome will have an all-hours kitchen, from which all meals are free (but limited to three per person per day). The Gathering Dome is also where communal meals and meetings will be held.
The Aquaponics Café
The Aquaponics Café, a combination of aquaponics greenhouse and café with courtyard seating… will be open to residents and tourists for breakfast and lunch.
The Lounge Restaurant
The Lounge Restaurant, in the recreational dome will serve as an evening restaurant to residents and visitors.
The option to order a delivered meal will be available for each of these kitchens. Simply log on to the respective kitchen/café/restaurant’s page and select an item from the menu. (See Ordering for more details.)
Food Truck
Additionally, a daytime food vendor will traverse the village regularly in a neighborhood electric vehicle modified to serve as a food truck. The idea here is variety, so the vendor will carry everything from cold deserts, to natural snacks, to hot meals. Operating the truck, like with anything else in the village, counts towards the required weekly work hours. Any additional hours worked will be paid the wage established, by the residents, for this job.
Social Activities
Fun stuff!
Games
The village will have occasional game days with prizes and such. Participation won’t be mandatory, but observation could be entertaining. Games we might play: OMEGAball (will explain later), kickball, bubbleball (will explain later)… video games, board games, card games… something else that will be decided upon as a group.
Celestial Events
For just about every celestial event (definitely every night-time celestial event), the village will have some form of a get-together. Grilled foods, camp-fires for cool nights, maybe a bit of music and dancing… will pair nicely with a good meteor shower.
Seasonal Celebrations
Being as the village will be a bit of a nature sanctuary, equinoxes and solstices will be celebrated. Exactly how each one will be celebrated will be established by the residents as a group… so we may choose to adopt some rather old celebratory practices… or perhaps we’ll create entirely new ones that feel fitting for the seasons.
Harvest Parties
Some, maybe most… possibly all… large harvests will need to be done by as large a group as possible. The larger the group, the lighter the work. After the harvest, we’ll have a nice party with dinner and performances and such.
Social Clubs
Someone once inquired as to if the village could have an asexual social club. The reply, “Sure. Why not?”
We recognize that humans like to do these things, so if a group of residents decide to form a common-interest-based social group that meets and does things, that’s perfectly fine. We only ask that the groups be inclusive… that is to say, if someone wants to join the asexual social club, but isn’t actually asexual, they should still be allowed to do so because they’re obviously interested.
Holidays
Annually agreed upon holidays from any faith or tradition… (Saturnalia, Holi, The Day Out of Time)
And other activities not yet imagined!
Shared with the public
Our sanctuary will strive to provide artists and engineers with access to diverse creative and technical resources. In addition to sharing food, we will offer in-depth knowledge on our sustainable growing practices and the innovative technologies that support our community.
Foods
Once we’ve reached a point where we produce more food than we can consume and store, we will launch various programs for distributing food to those who may not otherwise have access to fresh food.
One such program will involve physically delivering food on a regular bases to those who request it through a form on the public website (or maybe even by phone or letter).
Another involves allocating a certain amount of each harvest to free distribution through the website, where the person placing the order is only required to pay for the shipping (they’ll also be limited to how much of each item they can order).
We may also work with other venues like food banks and farmers’ markets.
Tours
Village tours… accessibly priced, discounted in Bitcoin, even cheaper in Circuitree.
The current idea is that a small tour group will be guided through the village on a 10-passenger golf car… to the museum, the theatres, the purpose torus to see some of the artists and engineers at work (if they agreed to be part of the tour), a meal at the café, maybe even a relaxing ride through the food forest… The extent and specifics of these tours will be decided upon by the villagers at a time when it is necessary.
Live Performances
Live performances will likely be a regular occurrence once the village is fully operational.
Performances open to the public will almost always take place in the public theatres of the Gateway Galleries or on the festival grounds of the Crop Field/Festival Campgrounds.
Village-only performances will have the option of performing pretty much anywhere in the village that can accommodate the performance.
Live Demonstrations
Live demonstrations of engineering projects will likely be a regular occurrence once the village is fully operational.
Public demonstrations will primarily take place in designated innovation spaces in the Creatorsphere, or on the open demonstration grounds in the Crop Field/Festival Campgrounds, allowing both villagers and visitors to witness new technologies in action.
Village-only demonstrations will have the flexibility to occur anywhere in the village that suits the project, with spaces available for various scales of experimentation and presentation.
Crop Field/Festival Campgrounds
Deeper in the food forest …but not far from the main village… enclosed in a five foot tall hügelkultur wall, will be 75 acres dedicated to growing specific outdoor crops. With any luck, one of those will be industrial hemp (for soil-rejuvenating crop-rotation, fabrics, food, paper, natural cosmetic products, animal feed, bedding, biodegradable plastics, and building materials such as hempcrete).
From time to time, this land will be used as festival camp-grounds for various, small arts and engineering festivals (likely seasonal events). Yurts will be provided as shelter for individuals and groups. Bathrooms (showers, sinks, incinerating toilets), which will be located in permanent domes, will be assigned to specific guests as well. Fresh food, if ready for harvesting, will be available on the hugelkultur wall and in the food forest (and accompanied with how-to guides). Additionally, the entry price to the festival will include free breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Aquaponics Café.
A feature of our festivals that some may find unusual is how we plan to handle after-festival clean-up. Not all festival go-ers may find this option attractive, but those that decide to stay behind and clean the areas they utilized during the festival will not only be returned their entry fee, but also paid 900 Circuitree, the village currency (this is quite close to what one of the residents would be paid to do the same job). If a festival go-er does decide to stay behind to help clean up, the minimum they will be required to clean in order to receive payment is the yurt and the bathroom that was assigned to them or their group (the amount will be the same regardless of whether their group helps them or not, as others will assist them instead).
Note: This area may be one of the last established, well after the village is fully operational.
Public Website
The village’s public website will serve as an art venue, an agricultural library, an operational blog, a web-store, and a platform for showcasing engineering projects.
agricultural information
We will maintain a comprehensive library covering every edible, medicinal, and industrial plant, with a special focus on the ones we cultivate in the village, along with detailed growing methods.
operational info
All details about how the village operates will be shared publicly, allowing others to replicate or adapt the systems as they wish.
artist promotion
Each artist will have their own page, which will be featured on the homepage every time they release new work. Fans will be able to donate or purchase the artist’s token (if they’ve made one) directly from that page. This applies to both resident and non-resident artists who use the village resources to complete a project.
We aim to implement or utilize a system like Maidsafe to ensure artists are paid every time their work is accessed. Payments will go directly to the artist’s posted wallet address, with the village receiving a share only if the artist chooses to contribute.
engineer showcase
Engineers will have dedicated pages where they can present their innovations and project updates. Featured projects will rotate on the homepage as milestones are reached, and visitors can offer donations or purchase project tokens (if available) directly. Both resident and non-resident engineers who leverage village resources for their work will have the same opportunities for promotion.
web-store
Artists will have the option to sell physical and digital goods through their own personal shops on our platform, similar to other online venues.
Engineers will also have the option to sell their innovations—such as designs, prototypes, and physical products—through their own dedicated shops in the web-store.
The food grown in the village will also have its own section, offering fresh produce, sun-dried snacks, frozen meals, and other creative culinary products.
